The Trojans Fight to Their Second Win of the SeasonThe Trojans Break Their Two-Tie Streak and Go for the GoldBy Alyssa Capili
The Skyline Men’s Soccer team delivered a crushing win against the Las Positas Panthers on October 16.
In blazing heat, Skyline came back from their 0-0 tie with the Panthers at the end of the first half to battle their way to a two-goal victory.
Some of the highlights from the first half were a series of aggressive head butts between the Trojans and Las Positas, number 14 and goalie, Pierrre Rappolt, blocking at least four attempted goals by the Panthers, and a great steal from the Las Positas offense was delivered by number three and defender, Kevin Wright.
Despite many steals by Las Positas, number five and defender/midfielder, Adrian Guzman, delivered a great assist from the Panthers. Number 12 and forward/midfielder, Dylan Crist, almost scored Skyline’s first goal several minutes after being substituted into the game.
After some serious rest and reinforcement, Skyline came back from half-time with a fierce offensive. Determined to score, the Panthers soon caught on to Skyline’s number of attempted goals and decided to step up their defense to put all of the Panthers fighting “D” with no one covering their offensive side.
Despite scoring the first goal ten minutes into the second half, Trojan number six and forward, Eugene Graziani, scored Skyline’s first goal two minutes after the Panthers scored theirs. Number 18 and defender, Joshua Guidry, took two venerable steals from Las Positas while number eight and defender/midfielder, Brandon Johnson-Jack attempted to score two more goals.
The Panther’s goalie then suffered an injury and came back to the game only in time for number 22 and midfielder, Christian Tovar, to score the second goal for the Trojans of the game.
Despite their 2-1 lead and 30 minutes remaining in the game, the Trojans continued to fight for victory. In the blistering sun the Trojans attempted a total of four goals, and maneuvered a great defensive slide and goal block was as delivered by number five, Adrian Guzman.
Overall in the second half the Trojans maintained a very venerable offense. The win was a team effort and it shows just how hard the team has worked in order to break their two-tie streak and finally obtain their second win of the season.
“I think it was one of our better performances of the year,” Head Coach Daniel Link said of his team’s performance. “Everyone played very well, hard and with heart…The momentum [of two ties] has carried with the pattern of how we’ve been playing. A little improvement here and a little improvement there and we’re hoping it will carry us on to winning our next game.”
