For young up and coming writers and artists, nothing is more important then getting your work noticed and appreciated.
And now, with the help from The Skyline View this is possible.
The Skyline newspaper as always been a great source of information for the goings on around campus and how it impacts you, and now we are giving the chance for the student body to promote themselves and their work.
The Skyline View invites any student and all students to submit their creative writing.
Our staff will review any and all work formally submitted and reach a decision as to which is the best. The individual with the best entry will be featured on our newspaper and will earn the title of “Best Writer of the Week”.
Forms of creative writing may be anything from short stories to poems. If it can be written under 700 words in an artistic manner then we want it.
If this project is successful and we get a good number of entries, we may separate the winners in different categories like “Best Short Story of the Week,” “Best Poem of the Week,” and so on, and in the spirit of competition we may also have second and third place winners for said categories – again, however, only if we receive a good number of entries. But the top title regardless would still be “Best Writer of the Week” which would be given to the best entry overall.
In addition, The Skyline View welcomes anyone to submit their artwork as well. If your talent is more scenery and images rather then words and sentences then we would still like to feature it in our paper
The top title for artist is much the same as for creative writing; the individual who has the best artwork will be given the title “Best Artist of the week”.
Forms of artwork can consist of photos, paintings, sketches, or any other visual medium that could be printed in our paper. The only requirements are that the images must be tasteful – we attempt to remain a PG-13 production – and they must be made available in some digital format.
For those submitting artwork, please also be aware that we do NOT currently print in color, and all images that run in the paper will be run in black and white.
Again, like the writing portion of this project, if we get a good number of artwork we may separate them by categories such as “Best Photo of the Week, or “Best Painting of the Week”. However, the top title overall would still be “Best Artist of Week”.
If anyone is willing to submit their work we highly recommend that you do, this is a great opportunity to promote yourself and your work to the public, not to mention being published makes for good credentials.
Even to those who aren’t pursuing a career in writing or art we encourage you still participate if only for the fun of it. Who knows – you might have a hidden talent you never knew you had.
You might even be the first ever to win the title of “Best Writer of the Week” or “Best Artist of the Week”.
