There are very few things that students look forward to at school, and yearbooks are one of those things, just like dances and food fairs. Every year, during the last few days of school, students everywhere are busily scurrying about trying to track down their peers for their signatures. This is a time that every student waits patiently with anticipation. But, as I found out recently, once you hit college, the tradition of the yearbook abruptly stops. And, if you think about it, it doesn’t make sense for the school to not make a yearbook. For one thing, the yearbooks provide the school with a ton of money. At my High School, which was Terra Nova, yearbooks cost $65, and they sold like mad. Literally everyone wanted one. Especially with how the economy is right now, I think that yearbooks could rake in the school a lot of money which can then be used to hire more teachers, create new classes, or even just renovate run down areas.Secondly, yearbooks require a staff, so a class could be created to be dedicated to the making of the yearbook. This would be good for students because it provides an extra opportunity to earn credits. I believe that many people would sign up for the class because it would probably be a fun environment, much like the skyline newsroom. Lastly, and less materialistically, yearbooks are just plain fun. I know that I am always eager to show my parents the pictures of people who I have befriended over the year(s). It is also a very special moment when you read the comments of your newfound friends during the summer and you are no longer seeing them because it is almost as though they are right beside you. Yearbooks hold the key to your childhood because they forever contain the ingredients of your childhood. And plus, it is a way for you to look at the various clubs and programs on campus and find out more about them. And if you are in a club, then you get some recognition. Not only that, but you can find out about the student government via the yearbook. In High School, everyone not only knew who was in what position, but they also knew what they were organizing. At Skyline, you do not even know who is on the student government. I wouldn’t even know that there was a student government if it weren’t for my friend who was attending the meetings. Maybe if the government were more outspoken then the student population could be more involved in school activities and would be more interested in what is happening around campus. Yearbooks don’t only contain the joy of all the students, but they also show off the fun sides in teachers as well, which we can’t even imagine. It is always a blast hanging out with all of your buddies during vacation and just reminiscing about the different times you had with the professors, both the good and the torturous. Yearbooks allow students to show off their goofy and sensitive sides which would never come out in class. They contain all of the memories that we want to remember. Yearbooks net the school money, create a class for students, and organize all of the fun memories for many during their stay at the school. Case in point, a person should never be considered too old to remember, and I am not talking about Alzheimer’s. So why doesn’t Skyline have a yearbook?
