Did the first week of college seem to go by in a blur? This type of attitude is often found around the campus every semester.
For new students, attending Skyline College seems like an incredibly big step and they are looking for guidance during their difficult transition. To ease this transition, various tools are offered on campus; among them is the Student Services Office. This office is in charge of arranging most of the extracurricular activities. They have free planners, free catalogues, and sometimes even free movie tickets. “We are here to help students and to inform them about the school’s activities” said Shannon Salazar, student assistant of Student Services office. The Student services office is a great source of information. This is because they book different types of vendors to come and inform students about credit cards, jobs, fun activities, etc.
“I think it is important to have these services because it includes students in campus life, and it is also a good place to make new friends”, said Gloria Acosta, Skyline College student. According to Salazar, it is a good way to meet new people because students can join one of the many clubs available. For those students that don’t find a club of their interest, they are always welcome to initiate their very own. Kalvin Cheah, who is 18 years old and a first year student at Skyline, is trying to find out as much as he can about the campus and its life.
When asked about the Student Services, he mentioned that he did not know much information on them, but would be somewhat interested in learning about the clubs here at Skyline. There are many students whose situation is similar to Cheah’s in that they want to be involved in the Skyline community.
Students are strongly suggested to use resources available on campus as much as possible, as it can only help them throughout the semester.
The Student Services office is located on the second floor of building six and they are available from 8 am to 6 pm, everyday.
