With the playoff picture looking ever bleak, the 49ers squeaked by with the only touchdown of the game to win over the Bills 10-3 this past Sunday. Improving to a 4-8 record for the season, the Niners are likely out of the post season this year. Still, Isacc Bruce caught his 90th career TD as the Niners offense rolled along over their Buffalo hosts. The low scoring game came about through numerous missed opportunities for the Bills, as kicker Rian Lindell saw two of his attempts hit the uprights. It certainly wasn’t the prettiest win, but the 49ers return home with it under their belt.
Across the Bay Bridge, problems in all areas of the Raiders’ game were exploited. A fake field goal by the Raiders that went bad was the playmaker of the game, allowing the Chiefs to scoop it up and return it 67 yards for the game winning touchdown. The Raiders, now (3-9) and the Chiefs (2-10) both played games that would best be forgotten, as neither team threw or ran the ball particularly well.
While the playoffs will have to wait for both Bay Area teams, improvements to both quarterback positions as well as a shuffle of leadership hopefully hold in store a better season in 2009. Here are the final scores of other games around the league in Week 13:
