Flexing the muscle that many predicted early in the season, the 49ers showed flashes of the greatness they bled in the 80’s. Efforts from the defense, special teams, and most importantly, the offense, the boys in red and gold put up five touchdowns, earning newly appointed starter Shaun Hill a perfect QB rating for the first half. The visiting Rams didn’t have an answer for the barrage of points, retaliating with only a late quarter touchdown. 49er fans have a week to gloat and celebrate, their old rival Cowboys are waiting on Sunday.
It was quite the opposite again for the Raiders this week, again failing to post an offensive touchdown in over 13 quarters. Were it not for Johnnie Lee Higgins’ 93-yard TD punt return, the Raiders would have gone another game without reaching for the end zone. Miami still found a way to beat Oakland, featuring a game winning 38-yard field goal with less than a minute to play. The Raiders also have a tough schedule ahead, traveling to the mile-high stadium on Sunday.
