Presidents of Innovation for Skyline College sponsored Rock The School Bells event that took place over the entire week. The ASTEP, Puente, Hermanos and Kababayan programs all supported the events. “Rock The Bells events were a part of the RTSB-PCN English 104 class that is required for a grade,” said student Trish Morales who helped organize the events.
The program originated from the Rock The Bells Concert that tours around the country every year where Hip Hop artist inform, educate, and entertain Hip Hop listeners and non-listeners. “The turnout was great this year but ticket selling was tough,” said Morales. “The conference tickets give you breakfast, lunch, and dinner, workshops,
A free t-shirt, and admission to the concert or buy your own tickets.”
“Money [acquired by selling things at the events] will go towards educational scholarships for high school students, left over money will go towards Kababayan program along with Rock The Bells for next years events” Morales continued. “Their mission is to educate, promote, and present Hip Hop as an outlet to the misconceptions that are put out there. People who have the wrong understanding of what Hip Hop is will be educated and well informed about what it really is.”
The group is doing all aspects of Hip Hop not just music. Choreographer group Aftermath is perform locally in the Bay Area along with other D.J. performers.
The dancers perform at different events such as weddings, receptions, and festivals.
