On an average day at the Skyline campus, students are offered a variety of different clubs, groups and associations they can join or help. People on campus have different beliefs as to how much school can really offer them besides education. It’s true that the main reason for people to attend school is to gain education, but it can be taken much further than that. Clubs and organizations on campus offer a way for students to get involved with their campus.
One of the greatest things about clubs and organizations is that anyone with a positive idea can begin one. Usually clubs begin with one person branching off their ideas and trying to make something positive happen. People need to feel if their cause is really worth fighting for because the people looking from the outside in should believe in those people’s actions. Anything is possible as long as one person has hope to make something happen, whether it be on campus or in the world.
A group of people who believe in the same cause have formed organizations. Some groups may have many great ideas and no organization, while others may follow one strict code and no members to follow it. What the students need to realize is that no matter what they believe in or what they’re fighting for, there may be a group out there for them. The matter of looking and taking time to actually find the association that fits the average student best is what should be the main concern.
Many people are scared for some new change to happen anywhere and especially in their school. If they’re not part of the change, they feel as if they’re falling behind with what is really going on. They see certain things change, but the things that they feel need the majority of help are never thought of.
The issues that need the most help continue being stepped over because there is no one there to fight for it. For the people who do not have the time, they continue to go to school, without the thought that anything will change.
The groups and clubs on campus already have their own personal missions, but it takes the members to fill the roles carried on to them and bring new ideas to the table. Even if a person does not have a high ranking role in the association, the point is that they are there to help and sometimes that is the biggest role one person can play.
The members make the club more noticeable because they support the cause and continue with the mission outside of school. Although having more people in a club makes that club look stronger, in reality every group is equal. Although the tasks they try to accomplish may set them apart, it’s not about who is doing the most but who is accomplishing their mission.
Once again, if a person feels as if there is no association on campus that previews their ideas, they have the option of starting their own association, that is what makes the Skyline campus so diverse. Time and time again there is always a new club being put together. There are students on an everyday basis fighting for what they believe in.
Members of the campus have noticed this and take much pride in helping students fight for what they believe in. The biggest example of freedom of speech was the debate between the supporters of Prop 8 and the opposition. No matter what happened to the proposition in the end, it was history in the making for Skyline students. Students yelled and voiced their opinions; raw emotion was seen on all the faces of students on both sides of the debate and in the crowd.
Students should be as involved with their campus as possible because the school is built for them. If there is something that needs to be fixed or changed, students should come together and try to fix it. The Skyline faculty knows that students are the most powerful people on campus. When students come together to make a positive change in any way shape or form, the sky is the limit.
