With huge stunts and over the top action Bond is getting plenty of use out of his license to kill. However, this movie should definitely not be written of as an action spectacle.
‘Solace’ picks up one hour after “Casino Royale.” Bond is on a mission to find those responsible for the death of Vesper, his lover from ‘Royale.’ 007 learned in the prequel film that Vesper had been compromised as an MI6 agent and was feeding valuable information to a group known as Quantum. His only lead on this association being a man named Mr. White whom Bond tracked down at the end of the first film.
“Quantum of Solace” is a sequel in every meaning of the word. Sure you can go in and watch it without having seen ‘Royale,’ but by doing so you will be cheating yourself of a great movie experience.
I’ll admit it’s easy to get distracted from the plot with all the gunfire and explosions going off around you. However, paying close attention to the dialogue has a big payoff in the long run. Not only do you get a glimpse at how suave 007 truly is, but you also see where the next Bond film is gonna go.
Honestly in “Quantum of Solace” Bond’s story arc doesn’t really get any closure. Sure he get’s a bad guy, but it’s far from the one he’s after. So that the movie will have some sort of conclusive plot they bring in Camille Montes, played by Olga Kurylenko. Montes’ mission is to bring down the man responsible for her families death. Her arc is wrapped up by the end of this movie.
The only thing I felt this movie lacked was 007’s toys. Bond is known for his gadgets, however this time around he doesn’t really have any. Even so, it just goes to show that Bond can handle any situation with his bare hands.
Daniel Craig has taken Bond to new heights. I really like how they reimagined Bond’s story and that they are retelling it from the beginning of his career as a 00 agent. It lets them modernize Bond while leaving it open so that if they wanted to they could start brining back older Bond baddies.
If you were a fan of “Casino Royale” then this is definitely a movie for you.
