On the Skyline campus there are many opportunities for students to succeed in school and out of school. Many people attend school in order to have the skills and traits needed in order to have a well paying job. Students and school staff feel that it’s important for someone to have the opportunity to go to school and have a well-paying job at the same time.
Although students have a full time obligation to continue in school, the idea of having money and being worry-free is a constant thought. Lack of time to go out and find a job may be stressful, but on-campus job recruiting may be the new light for those students who may have lost hope.
While speaking to Tony Jara about on-campus job recruiting, he felt that it was a very helpful tool to the students,
“Students get to know about the job opportunities and what is out there as far as jobs go”.
He also felt that it gives students a personal in as far as obtaining the job.
“It makes it easier to find a job because it is sort of like having an interview on the spot and getting to know the businesses personally”.
Virginia Padron, Career Center Coordinator and Career Counselor at Skyline believes that helping the students find a job is the most important thing about her job.
On a yearly basis Virginia and the Career Center employees put together a job fair on campus. In an interview she gave some information about this year’s job fair, which is occurring on Nov. 12 in Building 6, with other resources available in the career center. This year’s job fair is more dedicated to making a better relationship between student and employee.
“We [the Career Center] are making sure to do a lot more follow-up with the employers to make sure that they show up on campus to help the students,” Padron said. “We are hoping to have the same turn out as last year and definitely more”.
She also mentioned the year-round services that are offered in the Career Center from the counselors as well as the front desk assistants.
“We are here to help the students. We have a new website we’re launching called skylinejobs.com. Students can click on job postings from over 1,000 national and local employees”.
Simply go into Building 2, check in, and get assistance in finding a career.
The opportunities available on campus for students to find jobs and careers are very helpful. Many students have found their jobs while browsing on the Career Center website and campus job recruiting. The word is being spread along and more students are finding jobs. The overall response of the Skyline campus is that the on-campus job recruiting is very helpful and successful for the on-the-go student.
