Smokers at Skyline are about to face new rules concerning the areas in which they can smoke around campus. The current laws of smoking only require you to be roughly 20 feet from building doors. However, effective fall 2009, smoking will only be allowed in the parking lots.
To some this is no problem at all. Furthermore, those bothered by the smoke around campus will probably be happy with this decision. On the other hand, student and faculty smokers might not be able to puff their cigarettes in between classes.
Once the laws are intact they will definitely affect the smokers. Some people just enjoy the option of a cigarette before sitting through another class or teaching it for that matter. Next fall, this may not be a possibility, as it could have an effect on their schedule.
Personally, I don’t smoke cigarettes. I’ll admit that in a closed, confined area, smoke can and will probably bother me. However, around campus I think the current rules are good enough. There is no smoking allowed in any of the buildings so smoke doesn’t fill the halls. And, rarely do I find people smoking right next to a building door. So if the smokers follow the rules they really aren’t a bother to me.
