I knew this was going to happened again, as another senseless school shooting has slapped the country across the face and slipped Americans into their favorite worst nightmare: doubt, paranoia, and finger pointing.
I wonder where Marilyn Manson was on that day, maybe he had something to do with it, someone should send him an angry letter.
I can’t help feeling a little irritated by these school shootings. I know that sounds like a weird reaction because 30 families are suffering through some of the worst times that they will ever experience, but I can’t help it.
I am sorry for Virginia Tech’s loss, but I am no fan of heightened security, heightened paranoia, and the strange feeling, that our every action is being scrutinized to ascertain wether we are a threat (I think I left my backpack un attended on a table in the new building six). Skyline is talking about putting loud speakers up so they can tell us if anyone has started shooting, but what is that going to do as a big problem might get a little smaller. Will this measure solve anything, or just be a reaction? I will not feel any safer, but what we need in a time of crisis is just an illusion, we need a big green head and a man behind a curtain.
I apologize for this article in advance and I know it has nothing to do with sports, but I am not in a sporting mood. When everything is spinning out of control, what are we, the ordinary people, supposed to do?
Madness is all around as Iraq continues to get worse, then the Virginia Tech massacre, and NASA getting held hostage by a gunman, but what is the common thread in all of these situations? The common thread is there is a person carrying a gun, but besides Iraq which is a different story to begin with, what are any of these gunmen doing with a gun? How did they get it? Why did they need it? Was it to protect their families from a breaking and entering, or maybe they started their own militia of one, and are trying to take down “the man,” or is it women and children too, I just can’t keep up.
But I wish that every American Idiot didn’t own a gun and even the smart ones I wouldn’t want to own a gun, so where does that leave us? I am for having no guns, and by no guns I mean destroy them all, I want complete gun control. But what then of the man trying to break into my house or rob me on the street, I need protection if they have a gun, I should have a gun. Whenever I hear this argument for why people should own guns I cringe. The absurdity of two people pointing guns at each other over the crap they have stored in their house makes me laugh like their television and iPod or the pittance in their wallets is more important than a human life, even a bad one.
I know I am in the extreme minority over this issue, but to me a gun not in the hand makes two less dead in a bush, and two happier families.
