“In Baseball it takes a while to get going… by the time season starts we’ll be in full gear,” says Dino Nomicos, head coach of Skyline’s varsity baseball team.
The Skyline Trojans are 3-2 so far in the preseason, with the two loses coming against teams ranked in the top 10 in the state.
Against Cosumnes River College, ranked #9 in California, Jimmy Parque went 3 for 4 including his first home run of the of the season and Trojan’s pitcher Greg Gonzalez, struck out six batters in 5.1 innings pitched, giving up one earned run. Cosumnes was able to score two runs in the top of the ninth against pitcher David Parshall (0-1).
Sierra College, ranked #2, scored three runs in top of the ninth to steal another victory away from the Trojans. Trojans’ pitcher Jesse Orozco (1-1, 2.65) gave up three earned runs in the ninth, earning the loss. Despite losing two in row, the Trojans have a reason to be happy as pitcher Dan Orlick gave up only 2 runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings.
“We are right where we need to be. There is always room for improvement,” says Nomicos.
The Trojans needed to sure up there bullpen, as they were leading both games going into the late innings. If Coach Nomicos’ prediction comes true then tough times are on the way for Coast Conference North opponents.
