Some artists have it all: the ability to write, sing, and play their own instruments. One artist that goes above and beyond these criteria is Prince. Yes, he is Prince again, and is no longer known as the artist formally known as…you get the idea.
Prince grew to popularity in the 80’s with his fusion of combining pop, rock, jazz, and even tossing in the kitchen sink in some cases. He played many instruments and composed the music for all of his songs.
Not only innovative, but his music has the magic power to cause people to bust a groove and shake their booties. It’s not just his crazy beats that made him a huge hit, but it is also his massive charisma and comfort with his sexuality. Not many men could dance around in ass-less pants and heels and still be considered a sex symbol by women and a man’s man by men.
Both a classic and a standard, “When Doves Cry” is more then a pop sensation; it is a masterpiece both lyrically and musically. The song paints images of sex and passion and the burden of these things in your heart and soul.
“Touch if you will, my stomach, feel how it trembles, inside you’ve got the butterflies all tied up, don’t make me chase you, even doves have pride.”
These lyrics are reminiscent of a possibly forbidden love filled with longing and want.
Prince also gives off a strong sexual vibe, possibly from the freaky side of the sexual rainbow. “Little Red Corvette,” a prime example, who could come up with a line like “She’s got a pocket full of horses, Trojans and some of them used.” You would definitely have to be a little more then clear-heels-nasty, and if you understand what that line is saying then you have the honor of being just as freak-nasty as Prince himself.
This is why we love Prince. Not just for his music or his fantastic ass-less wardrobe, but because he fearlessly lets his true colors shine no matter how off the wall they maybe.
