The Skyline’s women badminton players ended their season with a 3rd place standing and some had the chance to compete in the State Finals.
The badminton team had to compete with the other teams in their conference to qualify for the state finals. In each conference, eight singles players and six doubles teams qualify to compete in the championships. Three singles players and two doubles teams from Skyline made it to the finals, which were held April 12-14 in Pasadena, CA. Jennifer Wong was the fourth seed for singles, Kristi Wong was the sixth seed for singles and Wai Tan Tam was the seventh seed for singles. J. Wong and Tam were the second seed for doubles teams and Rebecca Lei and Kristi Wong were the sixth seed for doubles. “I was very happy with how we did,” Coach Jan Fosberg said. Fosberg was pleased with the team’s 4-5 record.
Last season, Skyline went to the finals as Northern California’s champions for the second year in a row, and lost for the second time consecutively to defending state champions Irvine Valley College.
Skyline did have a men’s badminton club team this year as well. The club team does not compete in the state championships.
