Presented by vodka’s renowned sidekick beverage, Rockstar transformed San Jose State’s event center into a stage of chaotic screams. Although held on March 28, a school night for many, midterms and following-morning classes couldn’t keep others from the concert’s traffic-jammed line up.
Not only did the concert include the infamously established bands such as Thrice, Story of the Year, and the legendary Deftones, but alternative novices were featured as well, making A Taste of Chaos a definite sampler recipe of success.
Beginning performances were carried out by touring debut bands from across the country, assembling the crowd from the bleachers to the main floor.
Greeley Estates served as one of the openers, instigating discordant mosh pits of putrid sweat and must. From screams hearkened with deafening snares to livid guitar chords, shoves and thrusts from flailing arms and grimy converses didn’t bother those entranced with the band’s magnetism.
The crowd was then taken by Story of the Year, sparking the stadium with their familiar and unveiling hits. Holding the most infamous song of the night, “Until the Day I Die” deserves honorable mention. Not only was the dedication a sing along to devout fans, but a binding sense of amity among strangers.
To supplement Atreyu’s following performance preparation, touring bands performed along the bannered Myspace.com side stage to maintain the crowd’s adrenaline. But it wasn’t until Thrice stole the stage when the enlivening crowd surfers began to ride the waves. Nevertheless, despite all the pit-moshing, convulsions, and hardcore cries, the Deftones concluded the concert, still being able to squeeze the remaining life from the genuine screamos of the mass.
The concert ended just in time for many to still catch a decent 7 hour slumber before 8 am classes. Other than clotting bruises and scabbing open wounds, A Taste of Chaos gave everyone something to dream about.
