Starting off with weak pitching, downhill was the only direction the game headed. Chabot’s batting came in full force with an R.B.I by Nick Pena in the third inning followed by a grand slam from Jeff Bernacil. This was followed in the forth by back-to-back homeruns by Rylan Sandoval and Andy Darnell. The powerful hitting of The Gladiators continued throughout the game earning them 20 runs.
With five pitching changes, the Trojans were unable to gain a rhythm to remove themselves from the hole. Nick Stewart scored the only run for the Trojans in the bottom of the ninth.
Despite the Trojan’s bitter defeat, the Gladiators showed rampant displays of poor sportsmanship. In the top of the sixth, the Chabot coaches began arguing with the umpires’ calls. In addition, the game was held up by confrontations within the Chabot’s team in the 7th inning, resulting in one of the Chabot players willingly removing himself from the dugout.
“It was a bad game for us. That’s the way its goes, we’ll get over it, it’s still early in the season and we are still in second place and that’s all that matters,” said Coach Dino Nomicos on Skyline’s staggering defeat against Chabot.
Skyline’s Trojans, even with this horrible loss to Chabot, are still ranked second in their conference and have been having a powerful season. However, weak pitching and small errors in fielding cost the Trojans the game against the Gladiators.
Note: As of March 22 due to back-to-back wins against City College and De Anza, the Trojans have moved into the first place for our division.
