I’ve seen a number of governors come and go, most of which I don’t remember or even care about remembering. But my personal lack of political interest aside, I still found it completely amazing that a man by the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger was somehow able to convince the people of this state that he was the man they should choose to replaceGray Davis
The intent of this article is not to make any comment on the job that Governor Schwarzenegger has done so far. My problem this week lies with the people of this state. We have before us a man, who has never once held a position of political significance anywhere near the level of governor of a state. As an actor, he has no skills anywhere near those required to govern a large body of people, especially with an economy as huge as that of California.
Yet somehow we elected him our leader.
With the recall election that removed Gray Davis from office, the idea of politics being a popularity contest became more than a myth in my eyes; it became a cold hard truth. We now live in a place where you don’t need to be the right man for the job, you just have to look like you might be, and if you can do that then nobody will even care what you do once you’re elected.
All I’m really asking is for the people of this state to open their eyes and think about what they’ve done. When you go to the polls this time around, don’t just vote for Arnold because you’ve heard his name before. California is a huge economy, whose population outnumbers some countries. The person put in charge to lead this place into the future should be someone who knows what it takes to be successful. Is Arnold the man for the job? Has he done anything significant for this state during his term, aside from raising tuition prices? Why did you vote for the candidate you voted for last time? Think about these questions and perhaps the next election for the governor of this state will not show the ignorance of its people like the last one did.
