Presidents past and present gathered at Skyline College on Monday, Nov. 7 to celebrate the topping off of the new Student Support and Community Services Center.
At the ceremony, students and faculty alike signed the final two beams to be placed on the supporting structure of the new Student Support and Community Services Center which is currently under construction.
“Everybody has a part in the building. All sorts of people were involved in the design of it, everybody is going to be using it. It’s in the center of the campus, it was just logical to let everyone sign [the beam.]” said Dr. Victoria Morrow, president of Skyline College.
The students of Skyline College spent Nov. 7th signing the last beam to be placed in structure.
The building when complete, will house student government offices, meeting rooms, the book store and the new cafeteria along with many other amenities for the students of skyline.
“I think it will pull the campus together even closer, it will be in the heart of the campus.” Morrow said about the Student Support and Community Services Center.
The student body president of Skyline College, Taylor Angel, spoke at the ceremony along with Morrow. Morrow spoke on how this was a day that was long coming and very proud day for the college, and how topping off ceremonies have much history and tradition.
“We are sharing the feelings of our ancestors all over the world, and I know this because as we prepared for this days I heard people all over the campus eagerly asking if they too would get sign the beam, which would then be hoisted on to the top most part of the building.” Morrow said commenting on the steady stream of students, faculty and construction workers that spent the day signing the beam, even the youngsters from the Skyline Child Care Center showed up to put their young signatures on the beam.
With the outer structure complete, Skyline is closer to having the new Student Support and Community Services Center complete and ready for use by the students of Skyline College.
