There are some days when you just want to dawn your pin stripe pants thin black tie light a smoke dawn your shades and swing like a hip cat of yesteryear. So pull out your record player and deck of cards because this week I bring you Bobby Darin. The wonderful thing about Bobby Darin is that he can’t just fall into one genre of music he goes from Vegas night club swinger, pure rock n roller, to folk singer in a blink of an eye, and what makes him appleing to so many people is his voice which is rich and smooth and will make you, depending on what genre Mr. Darin is preforming in, either want to grab a martini and swing like a hip cat, or just sway back and forth with your guy or girl to the smooth folk rhythm.
Most of you have all herd Bobby Darin weather you know it or not, because his song Mac the Knife is not only awesome but played quit frequently on the AM radio. A popping night club hit, about a mob hit man, that makes you just want to kick back and act like a hip cat. In this song its not only Bobby Darins voice that drives the power home it’s the awesome backing band he has filled with a powerful horn section and exilent drum work. You also have more then likely heard his one of his first hits as a teen idol from the 50’s Dream Lover, a song about a young man looking for a love that can come and rescue him. But one my favorite songs from this cat is Beyond the Sea, I know it’s a bit cliche of a tune but like with everyone else who listens to it, it makes think of that place where my heart lives that I don’t get see as often as I like. Not to mention it has a killer horn and drum brake down that just drives the song even harder with Darins powerful vocals.
Bobby Darin is just one of those artists that no matter how nerdy you are when you listen to him you will feel endlessly cool and think to your self yeah I dig what this cat is singing about, even tho I doubt many of us could relate to a song about the life and death of a mob hit man. But then that’s not the point of jamming to Bobby Darin, the point is to create attitude and atmosphere to what you are doing and to put a little swing into your step and your life.
Bobby Darin my bit a little old school, but that doesn’t mean he swings any less the best thing about Bobby Darin is he power to go from totally swinging and getting people dancing to completely mellow mood where you feel like your chilling in a darkened night club martini in one hand guy and or doll in the other just chatting it up with some of your nearest and dearest friends. So grab you shades and check out Bobby Darin for some swinging good times.
