Harry and the Potters are a band of two brothers out of Massachusetts that write songs about the series of Harry Potter books, but it is also more then that because the songs are written and performed from the perspective of Harry Potter himself. The guys even dress up as Harry when they are performing live shows, which is one of the reasons I like these guys; they are pure Geek-Core, they stick to what is going on in Harry’s world, and catch it so well. To me, it sounds like what would have happened if Harry started a garage band with Ron.
Now their recording quality may not be the best, and their vocals might be a bit off at times, but I think there is more to music then that. Sometimes you just need to smile and that’s what Harry and the Potters do; they will make you smile. They have come out with two albums and are working on a third album but do not have a release date for it as of yet.
You might, at this point, be saying to yourself, “Come on, how could a band that writes songs about books be awesome?” Well I assure you they rock much of the face. The songs make you want to jump around and sing along and just wear a big smile on your face. The band may have a rock sound but it doesn’t matter; if you have read the books and liked them, then you will surely dig Harry and The Potters. And if you haven’t read the books and you check these guys out, you will end up wanting to read the books after a few songs.
Some of my favorite tracks from these guys would have to be “Fred and George,” a funky song about Ron Weasley’s prankster brothers. This song just makes me laugh and has a very broken sounding bass line which just makes me think of the twins. Another very good song is “Stick it to Delores,” a song about the meanest nastiest teacher ever. This song is about taking her down and kicking her butt. Who can’t relate to a song about taking an evil teacher down?
So whether you have read the Harry Potter books or not, you should check out Harry and The Potters for a smile and a good laugh. Who knows? After you give them a listen you may be down to read the books, but let me warn you a lot of the songs have spoilers from the books. Now that you have been warned, go check out Harry and The Potters.
