There are not many bands that make you want to jump on the deck to dance a jig and down some rum, but the Scurvy Bastards are one of these bands, so grab your tankard of hooch and have some fun. You might have guessed by their name that these boys are a pirate band. Yes, that’s right – a pirate band! All of their songs have a folk feel, and are about a life of a pirate at sea. These pirate punks take classic sea shanties and give them a modern spin, while keeping some songs stripped down and as simple as the originals pieces.
The Scurvy Bastards came together in 1999 to create a sound filled with folk, rock, and high seas shenanigans – a sound that tells tales of old of days when the high seas were sailed by ghost ships and skeleton crews. In 2002 they release their only full length album “Battle Torn”, and this past July they released a DVD and a final audio CD to end there awesome reign of the high seas of music. Even though they never reached the heights of fame as some other bands, you should give these guys a look see.
The Scurvy Bastards have opened for and played with the likes of Wesley Wills, The Swingin’ Utters, and The Pogues. With a sound that will make you want to climb the mizenmast and scream “Ahoy, Matey!”, do a jig on the poop deck, and numerous other pirate-style things. You should surely give The Scurvy Bastards a try.
