Hello my friends, I am back for another lovely semester of bands that I feel should get the spotlight. But before I jump into this week’s awesome band I want to ask you all a favor, if you have any bands that you feel should get the spotlight just send me an email at [email protected], include where I can find a sample of their music and some information on them.
So my friends, I would like to open up the semester with some music you can move to, because we all get a bit lazy as school starts and the dog days of summer end. We all need something to get us going, and that something is The Dance Hall Crashers, an up beat ska band that has been recording since the mid to late 80’s, though they haven’t come out with an album since 2000. They are still a wonderful group to listen to during those long treks between home and school, or to keep you up on those long nights of “studying.”
With a slamming horn section, silky duel female vocals that have a rocking edge and songs that rang in topic about growing up to leaving your man . But my personal favorites would have to be the tracks DHC and Pick Up Lines. Pick Up Lines looks at what happens one night in a bar and all the lame pick up lines that people hear when they go out. I love this song because the lyrics are funny but also it has some really good horn work and a beat you can get your skank on to. For those not up on ska lingo, skanking is a joyful kind of dancing that you do when the music just fills you up so much you cant contain it. The song DHC was one of the first singles the band released way back in 1989. The song just inspires you to get up and live and forget your worries. Even though their last album to come out was back in 2000, you can still catch them live about once a year.
So if you’re up for some upbeat music that you can really dance around to, you should most definitely check out The Dance Hall Crashers.
