The world of indie rock has given us yet another wonderful band to get down to: Louis XIV. With guitar-driven songs and vocals reminiscent of the early days of rock and roll, this band is surely one to watch. Their song “Finding Out True Love Is Blind” is being picked up on radio stations across the country.
The band, featuring members of Convoy, was originally conceived as a concept album about a boy who thought he was the real Louis XIV. The idea just grew from there to a full on band that can hold its own. Big in San Diego, and with good reason, these boys put the “rock” back in rock and roll. With a slick sound that seems to come straight from the ’60s, it is thoroughly modern. This band really brings it all together-vocals, interments and good times.
The main reason I recommend this band is because is they are 100 percent rock and roll. With crisp guitar riffs, vocals, the scrapped-down mixing truly gives it that “wayback” sound. Louis XIV also has some snappy lyrics, which can be quite fun to listen to. You can find their CDs and EPs at their Web site or at most independent record shops.
Chances are if you enjoy the likes of the Flaming Lips you will like these fine fellows as well. In fact, if you like rock music, you will enjoy these guys. If you really want to check them out, they will be playing a show on Dec. 16 at Popscene in San Francisco. So, check out Louis XIV if you are looking for some ol’ rock and roll to get down too.
