Skyline Trojans women’s soccer team found out they didn’t make the playoffs on Nov 11. They ranked 17th out of 16 teams to make the playoffs, .0142 power points behind 16th seed Ohlone College.
According to women’s soccer Head Coach Kevin Corsiglia, Ohlone had a record of 8-8-3, but had more power points than the Trojans because Ohlone had beaten, tied or lost to six teams with an above .500 record. On the other hand, the Trojans only beat one team with a record of over .500 and lost to three teams with an above .500 records. In general, teams get more power points for playing a team that finishes with an above .500 record. If a team schedules a tough preseason, they have a better chance to make the playoffs, regardless of their record at the end of the season.
“Obviously, we are disappointed by this,” Corsiglia said. “Our goal was to make it back to the playoffs for the second straight year. Although we fell just short we still had a terrific season. Our 11-7-1 record is the second best ever in school history, topped only by last year’s team that finished 12-7-1.”
For the past two seasons, Corsiglia has coached his team to two consecutive winning seasons, with double-digit victories.
“Two years in a row with double-digit wins means that we are building a bit of consistency and a winning tradition here at Skyline,” Corsiglia said. “That was my goal when I was hired and I hope we will be able to continue our winning ways every season.”
The 2003-04 women’s soccer team was a talented core group with a fantastic set of sophomores. Corsiglia had an opportunity to coach and was a great influence on the freshman on the team. The freshmen that were recruited were the best class in five years, according to Corsiglia. Both fit together early and were able to have success all through the season.
