More heavy equipment traffic will enter the campus from Sharp Park Road as construction on buildings 6 and 7A, the Student Support and Community Services Center and Science Annex, begins to gear up. Students approaching the campus from Sharp Park Road are directed to turn right toward the lookout point.
A new entrance to student parking lots 8 and 9, directly across from the lookout, is underway and should be completed by Oct. 15. That should ease congestion at the north end of parking lot 8 where traffic tends to bottleneck.
Loma Chica School users and visitors may only park in front of the campus, but with caution. Construction traffic will be heavy in the coming months. With winter rains and shortened daylight hours ahead, Supervisor Richard Inokuchi of Campus Facilities can’t say it enough: please be careful when driving around campus.
Last month, concrete barriers were dropped between Loma Chica School and Pacific Heights to prevent through traffic.
“This will also serve to create safe practices for our Child Development Center patrons who are dropping off and picking up their children,” Inokuchi said in a memorandum to The Skyline View on Sept. 27.
Designated as a “swing” space, Pacific Heights or building 6 temporarily houses the Physical Education Department and is undergoing remodeling to house building 8 next spring.
A cut-over road and walkway were created last month between student parking lot 5 and the 100 new parking spaces behind Pacific Heights. Inokuchi said the new spaces should hold up well in the winter months.
