The Skyline Trojans baseball team was victorious over Hartnell College 11-9 March 16 on a three-run homerun off the bat of Trojans left fielder Aaron Davis. Entering the bottom of the eighth inning Skyline was trailing 9-8 and the rally started off when Trojans second baseman Greg Lehane hit a single then reached second base when leadoff hitter Brandon Ramsey grounded out to the first baseman, Will Vogl was intentionally walked. With two runners on base Davis took a 1-1 pitch and hit a three-run homerun over the right field fence.”I was feeling good all day, and I knew it was a matter of time before I ran into one,” Davis said. “It was good timing and I am glad it went over the fence and we won the game.”The Trojans (11-4, 4-2) were in a seesaw battle with the Panthers (10-5, 3-3) throughout the game. The game started off well for Skyline as Vogl hit a two-run homerun in the first inning to give Skyline an early 2-0 lead. The Trojans would also add one more run to have a 3-0 lead from a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chris Dubon scoring Davis from third base, Hartnell however scored three runs the following inning off starting pitcher Chris Galarza, who pitched two innings. The bottom of the third inning also began well for the Trojans with a walk by Vogl and Davis following up with a double to right center field. Kenny Wardell would score Vogl on a ground out to the secondbaseman. One out later Davis would score on a single by Trojan shortstop Steve Dorst. After three innings Skyline had a 5-3 lead. Once again the Panthers would score another run off Trojans pitching the following inning. Hartnell would take a 7-5 lead, scoring three runs off relief pitchers Jon Kimball and Justin Doherty. The Trojans would not back down though as they tied the game at seven in the fifth inning. Davis got on base hitting a bunt single then scored on a ground out by Dorst. Skyline first baseman Dan Hernandez hit a RBI single scoring catcher Dubon. The Trojans broke the 7-7 tie as Hernandez hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning.”We had a feeling this was going to be his come out day,” Vogl said. “He got a good pitch to hit and he hit the crap out of it.” The Trojans however would lose the lead and later trail 8-7. Panthers right fielder Adam Beebes lead off the top half of the eighth inning by hitting a bunt single, then later scoring on a starting pitcher/designated hitter Chris Balatico. Diaz, Hartnell’s firstbaseman scored Balatico on a RBI single. Nick Bogdanoff pitched the last two and a half innings to get the victory for Skyline each time the Trojans hit a homerun it came at a pivotal point.”Second time this year that Brandon Ramsey led off and get on base, and (Will Vogl) came through with a homerun in the bottom of the first this year,” Bogdanoff said. “Dan Hernandez-we have been waiting for him to come through and he came through clutch today. Aaron Davis came through clutch as well. I can’t ask for anything better than that.”
