The Skyline Trojans baseball team behind two grand slams in one inning out slugged De Anza 9-5 (2-1) 15-10 on Mar. 9. This feat has happened six times in the majors and 12 times in college baseball. Trojan batters Will Vogl and Steve Dorst both hit grand slam homeruns in a 10 run sixth inning after trailing 9-5 heading into the sixth inning. Before Vogl’s first history making grand slam, the team was trailing 2-0. He belted a two-run homerun in the first inning tying the game at 2 apiece. Vogl ended the game with six RBI’s. In the sixth inning the Trojans 9-4, (2-2) had scored twice on three singles and two walks tying the game seven squared. Vogl hit the tie-breaking homerun round tripper, to giving his squad an 11-7 lead.”It felt great to get back in it,” Vogl said. “It was a momentum changer it felt awesome.”Skyline once again hit three singles, which brought to the plate Dorst and he hit a opposite field homerun over the left field fence to top off one of the most amazing half innings in Trojan baseball history.”That was one of the best AB’s (at-bats) I have ever seen a batter take,” Vogl said. “He fouled off four or five pitches right before that and then the next pitch he got he hit it over the fence.” The Trojans pitching staff gave up only one run the rest of the game as Alex Sowyrda (1-0) pitched two innings, earning his first victory of the year. Trojans closer Nick Bogdonoff earned his third save of the year.Entering the game, Skyline was ranked 15th in Northern California as they defeated 10th ranked De Anza. With that victory they moved to 13th.”It’s the first time we have been ranked since 1991,” baseball head coach Dino Nomicos said. “We need to win against City College once we do that we will either stay where we are at or move up in the rankings. I think its really important because the top 16 teams at the end of the year will go to the playoffs.”
