The Skyline women’s soccer team has been on fire lately, posting wins in three of the last four games. The latest victory was the most recent contest on Nov. 4, a 2-0 win over Gavilan College. Freshman Susanna Chase and sophomore Amanda Lockett came through with thegoals for Skyline. Gavilan didn’t come with much offense, as they were only able to get off two shots and were unsuccessful on both scoring attempts, thanks to the efforts of goalkeeper Rocio Samayoa. Head Coach Kevin Corsiglia was impressed with his team’s performance even though he feels the team is capable of playing better.”Gavilan is a very tough defensive team, they put many players behind the ball and they swarmed, catching us a bit off guard, but we still picked up the win even though we had problems getting shots off,” Corsiglia said. With the win, Skyline now has a record of 11-6-1 with just one more regular season contest remaining. The Lady Trojans’ most recent loss came on Oct. 31 as top ranked De Anza College blanked them 0-4. De Anza holds the number one rank in the league and has never lost to Skyline in the school’s history. “That team just has more skilled personnel than us. We will have to work extra hard if we plan on beating this team in the post-season if we play them,” Corsiglia said. The team did make history on Oct. 28 as they became the first Skyline College’s women’s soccer team to clinch a winning season with a 6-0 victory over Mission College. Four different Trojan players scored including Amanda Lockett and Susanna Chase, scoring two goals each.”We are obviously better than this team, and it showed today as well as the first time we played them, when we also beat them pretty impressively,” Corsiglia said. The Trojans also managed to blank Hartnell College on Oct. 24 by a score of 4-0. Freshman Felina Sosa came through with two goals for Skyline. If the team wins the next, or last, game of the season against Cabrillo College on Nov. 7, it will put them in a good playoff position. The playoffs begin on Nov. 18, but the team still does not know who they will play or what seed they will be.
