The Skyline men’s soccer team has had trouble finishing off games strong lately. The team’s most recent game on Nov. 4, against Las Positas ended in a 2-2 tie. The Trojans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals by freshmen Anton Del Rosario and Ruben Salazar. Unfortunately, the team did not maintain this momentum in the second half as they let Las Positas rally back and tie the score at 2-2. “We got comfortable in the second half and allowed them to come back and tie the score; this is definitely a game that we should have won,” freshman halfback Ruben Salazar said. This was the team’s second tie in the last four games which has caused some concerns on the team.”We just need to play as hard as we can until we hear the whistle blow, that’s the only way we will close out this season strong and get a playoff bid,” Head Coach Danny Link said. The team has not won a game since they beat Las Positas on Oct. 17 in the first match between the two teams. The team’s most recent loss came on Oct. 28 against Fresno City College by a score of 0-3. This marked Skyline’s second loss of the season to Fresno City College as they held the Trojans scoreless just as they did in the first contest between the teams earlier in the season, a 0-2 Fresno win. The Trojans also suffered a disappointing loss on Oct. 24 to West Valley College by a score of 0-1. Skyline’s offense fired 27 goal shots in this game but came away unsuccessful on every scoring attempt. West Valley had just three goal shots but was successful on one of them, that being the only score of the game for both teams.”We were just very unlucky today. We played hard but we just couldn’t get any goals to go in for us,” Salazar said. The team tied Foothill College on Oct. 21, 1-1, in a very tight contest with the only score for Skyline coming from Jorge Chicas, who leads the team with seven goals.Skyline now has a record of 7-4-4 with just two more league games remaining. The team will have to finish off the season with a bang if they hope to get a good seed in the conference playoffs, which begin on Nov. 18.
