On Oct. 21, the Skyline women’s soccer team took the field to battle Las Positas in a crucial game. This game was important because Las Positas was one game ahead of Skyline for the number three ranking in the South Coast Conference. The game started off very slow, first year Deanna Prince got Skyline on the scoreboard with a goal in the first half but Las Positas would answer back with a score of their own before halftime. Both teams went into halftime with the score tied 1-1.The score remained that way deep into the second half, until Las Positas scored with just under 10 seconds remaining in the game. This dramatic finish sealed the loss for the Trojans, by a final of 1-2. “This was definitely a game that we should have won, it really hurts to lose this way,”first year Deanna Prince said following the disappointing loss. This was Skyline’s second straight loss. The team was shut out 0-2 against Canada College on Oct.17.”We are capable of winning all of our games, sometimes things just don’t go our way,” Goal Keeper Rocio Samayoa said. Skyline did manage to pick up wins in the previous two games before the two straight losses. On Oct 14, Skyline came away with a 3-2 victory over Ohlone College. On Oct 11, the ladies trounced Foothill College by a score of 5-0. first year Susanna Chase scored three goals in this contest recording the only “Hat Trick” of the year for Skyline. The team now owns a record of 8-5-1 and ranks fourth in the South Coast Conference with five league games remaining. Head Coach Kevin Corsiglia insists that his team must work harder if they want to succeed in the playoffs.”Lately we have had problems finishing off games, that is a concern,” Coach Corsiglia said. In the history of Skyline Women’s soccer, No team has ever finished with a .500 winning percentage or higher, but this team is on pace to do that.”Were playing well but we have lost some very close contests. We have to play a full 90 minute game every time we come out. If we do that, I think this team will be fine,” Corsiglia said.Skyline will look to improve it’s winning record on Oct.24 when they take the field to play a home game against Hartnell College. That game will begin at 2pm.
