The Skyline men’s Soccer team has achieved great success. With just five games remaining in the season, the team owns a record of 7-2-3 and is currently tied with West Valley College for second place in the South Coast conference.”I couldn’t ask for more of an effort from these guys on a game to game basis,” Head Coach Danny Link said. “These guys are always at practice and they are constantly looking for ways to get better,” Link said. Get better? This is bad news for the opposition considering the team has only lost two games all year long and hasn’t given up anymore than two goals in a single game. The team’s only losses were road losses, at De Anza and one at Fresno City. One of those came after a long bus ride to Fresno to play Fresno City College on Oct 10. “We were very worn out after that bus ride and our play really reflected that,” Link said. Skyline dropped the match 0-2, but would reign victorious in their next game at Las Positas 1-0 on Oct 17. The team’s other six victories came against Chabot on Sept 12 (1-0), Mission on Sept 16(1-0), Ohlone on Sept 19(2-0), Canada on Sept 26(2-0), Evergreen Valley on Sept 30 (4-2), and Cabrillo on Oct 7(1-0). The Trojans tied their latest contest against Foothill College1-1 on Oct 21. Skyline’s only goal of the game was scored by Jorje Chicas, who leads the team with seven goals. This is a game the team feels that they should have won.”It seemed like we did everything right but when we would get close enough, we just couldn’t score”, said Halfback Ruben Salazar. This was Skyline’s third tie of the year and a win would have put them solely in second place. The team’s next match is described by Link as the most important game of the year. They will face off on Oct.24 with West Valley College, the team who they are tied for second place with.”We have not played this team yet so we will learn a lot about ourselves after this game, we both share the same record but only one can prevail and we have to be the one that does,” said Link. The winner of that game will determine who stands alone in second place. That game, to be played at West Valley will begin at 4pm.
