The library would seem like the ideal place to study, since it’s supposed to be quiet, but that’s not always the case.I thought that it was common sense that when you’re in a location where you know that people are trying to get some work done, you’re supposed to be quiet in consideration of the other people inside, but apparently not everyone received the memo. It is very frustrating when you’re trying to study in the library, and the people sitting next to you are not using their indoor voices.People who talk too loudly are not only a problem in the library but also in the learning center. In fact, there are signs in the learning center that read:· This area is a QUIET workspace.· Anyone being disruptive will be asked to leave.· Any conversation should be at the level of a whisper. Regardless of the signs that are clearly displayed on the walls of the computer lab of the learning center, there are still people who choose to ignore the signs. How is anyone supposed to get any work done with all the noise?I have noticed that the librarians do try and quiet the people who are being disruptive, but they are not able to do it as often as they should. From what I can tell the librarians are only aware of the people who are being loud that are sitting near their station, and not the other people sitting farther from them. There still hasn’t been a time when I can remember someone hushing someone else in the learning center. This is a pity considering that there aren’t very many alternative places to study on campus. The only other possible places that one can go to try and get some work done are in the café, located in the theater lobby of building 1, and the cafeteria. These places aren’t any better than the library or the learning center because you run into the same problem of people causing too much of a commotion. Another option one can do to study is to sit in one of the booths situated alongside the wall of the library around the books. These booths can be a little bit too secluding at times. It’s nicer sitting out in the open near the computers being able to see people walk in and out, and having a good view of the clock. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that people talking to their friends in the library or learning center is such a bad thing, it’s just irritating when people are talking loud enough that one can hear snippets of the conversation and the volume of the conversation gets in the way of other people trying to concentrate. Sitting in on a lecture for a whole hour can be very exhausting and one needs to unwind by talking with other people, but keep it down to a whisper. Be considerate of other people. If what needs to be said is really important and it can’t be kept at whispering level, then please take it outside.
