Five Skyline baseball sophomores have received scholarships to play division one baseball next season.
Chris Watters, Jermy Acey, Dave Lind, Adam Hartman, and Bryan Zahn are headed to their respective colleges. Watters has officially signed with Marist College in New York on a full tuition, Acey has offers to go to Oklahoma City and Bethany College in Kansas, Lind has offers to go to Hawaii Hilo, Bingington College, Fresno State, San Francisco State, and Sienna College in New York, Adam Hartman has also has and offer to the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and Zahn has an offer to Sonoma State.
“It’s a continuing tradition here at Skyline,” said baseball head coach Dino Nomicos. “This is my fourth year and in four years 25 players have gotten scholarships to four year schools. That is why we are here at the jr. college level and that is to move guys on and develop them. “
The 25 players that have the scholarships are the most between the three colleges in the district (Skyline, Canada, and San Mateo).
With Watters signing with Marist College he is looking forward to be playing on the east coast.
“I will be solid defensively and I will be able to step up and be able to hit at the division one level,” Watters said. “I will be able to be successful at the next level.”
Watters is also pleased that his fellow sophomores are going to four-year colleges and gives credit where credit is due.
“That is a credit to the coaches and to the program to be able to move their players that want to keep playing,” Watters said. “We are fortunate enough to be in a situation where coaches do good things like that.”
Lind is still undecided on where to play he is thinking of playing for a college in New York.
“I am in the process of talking to Bingington and I am still waiting to hear from them,” Lind said. “I might go to Bingington if they give me enough money I probably might end going there. There is another school in New York (Sienna) that might possibly be interested so I probably might end up in New York.”
With these offerings these players will play well and will blossom it’s a credit to the coaching staff that these players are going to where they are.
“They all have worked hard and paid their dues,” said assistant coach Luke Borgo. “They are all guys that have earned what they got. The scholarships proved that they have accomplished their goals.”
The other players weren’t available for comment in time of production.
