The Skyline Trojans baseball team was shutout by CSM 7-0 March 29.
Trojan starting pitcher Jon Kimball pitched six plus innings gave up five hits on five runs three of those runs were earned, struck out two batters, and walked one. But in the seventh inning against CSM, Kimball got into trouble. Already trailing in the game 3-0, got out lead off hitter Ed Browne on a fly out. After he hit Colton Daines, got out Mike Mooney on another fly out. With two outs CSM’s catcher Dan Rosaia hit a double between shortstop and second base scoring Daines. Following the double by Rosaia, Nick Ependendo hit another double off Kimball. Later in the inning, Ryan Wilmer walked in a run and gave a single to Travis Tsuhs. That was the end Kimball’s afternoon leaving the bases loaded with two outs. Relief pitcher Adam Hartman got out Ryan Wilmer on a ground out to end the inning. CSM batted around during the seventh inning scoring four runs and increased their lead to 7-0.
“The emotions died a little bit for us,” said Skyline designated hitter Tim Jones who went 1 for 4 during the game. “It was a big rival game we were up for it. Our momentum went down when they scored a couple of runs from there on it just went down hill.”
After that relief pitching was good as Adam Hartman and Matthew Madigan pitched a combined two and one third of an inning giving up no runs, no hits and struck out four batters.
CSM’s 25-5 (13-1) starting pitcher Scott Feldman had the Trojans number as he allowed six hits in nine innings. Feldman is being regarded as one of the best players in the state who hasn’t lost in two years and showed it by striking out nine batters.
“It’s not just us he is figuring out it’s the whole state he is figuring out pretty much,” Jones said. “You have to give it to him the guy has good stuff. He throws strikes.”
Skyline 13-14 (5-9) didn’t score any runs this game but look forward to score more runs in the games to come and also would like to get into a mini streak.
“Our goal the rest of the week and season is to win two out of three games.” Baseball head coach Dino Nomicos said.
