With a mound of dirt resting next to building 1 and the trees that line the school’s entrance on College Drive being completely removed, current construction projects at Skyline may leave students wondering what is going on.
So what is going on?
The tree removal can be accredited to the non-school related company Summerhill Homes, which will be building houses on the land, and the mound of dirt is due to a leaky hot water pipe that is scheduled to be finished over Spring Break.
According to The San Mateo County Times, the 22-acre lot on College Drive, which was owned by the San Mateo County Community College District, was sold to help purchase Pacific Heights Middle School.
In an email, campus facilities head Paula Bray warned faculty and staff about animals that lived in the trees that have been torn down coming to the campus to find shelter.
“As this work progresses, all wildlife which had lived on that parcel will need to find new homes,” Bray said. “We hope that they won’t decide to head for the buildings on campus but we cannot be sure.”
As to the leaky pipe, according to Bray, the construction will attempt to locate the leak and repair it. The leak has been attributed to the steam that was emanating from building 1.
