Cassandra Hock
I am Latin American student, wife and mother. Spring 2014 is my first semester here at Skyline College.
I am currently in between majors; Journalism and Child Development. Writing has been a deep passion of mine since I was 10 years old. Growing up with two younger siblings gave me a big appreciation for solitude, which became my opportunity to express my thoughts on paper.
At age 19 I became a mother. Pursuing school to become a journalist lost its value in my priorities. Work and play became my daily lifestyle.
At the time I felt providing for my daughter was all I was required to do. When she turned 2 and started reading, I realized how important my one on one time was with her. I began to create learning activities for us to do on a daily basis. Her development was so exciting to me. I struggled a lot and did everything I could to get her the best education I had access to. It is now her fourth year at her private school. I am very fond of the small class structure and how attentive her teachers have been.
In 2010 I got involved with the Children’s Fund of San Mateo County. I really enjoy being apart of the program. During the holidays seasons I volunteer with the toy drive. The way my heart and mind light up with joy is truly unbelievable.
