J.K. Rowling has the world on its toes, eager to read once more. Announcements from Little, Brown and Co. shared that Rowling is writing a new novel targeted for an adult audience.
Rowling, who was the first person to become a billionaire by writing books, has become a household name. The Harry Potter series that transformed her life told a magical story about a bespectacled young wizard and his friends who embarked on a journey of adventure and triumphed over evil. With over 450 million copies sold and translated into more than 70 languages worldwide, the Harry Potter series is one of the most beloved tales ever written.
It has been rumored for quite some time that Rowling was possibly writing a new novel. She had taken it to her official Twitter account in 2009 that “pen and paper is (her) priority at the moment.” It seems in fact her only priority, given that she has tweeted nearly the same thing another four times and has been laying low the past five years after the final release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 2007.
After the breaking news from Little, Brown on Feb. 23, 2012, word spread like fire. Even with such exciting news, there was and is very little information to keep kindling the fire. No title, genre or release date was announced. The official J.K. Rowling site is now under redesign and will be re-launched later this spring. Little, Brown will announce further information later in the year, probably toward the end of spring since that is when the official website is to be resurrected.
Rowling, who has tweeted only nine times and follows no one, has over 1 million followers. She tweeted the day after the announcement and confirmed the news: “As you may have heard, I have a new book out later this year. Very different to Harry, although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much.”
With a new publisher and a new target audience, this new book is one to anticipate.
