Phi Theta Kappa is a well-recognized International Honor Society, the largest honor society in American education.
The PTK has more than 1.9 million members as well as 1,200 chapters under it. Beta Theta Omnicron is our campus’ chapter of the PTK, and is involved with fundraisers, conventions, and events on campus.
Beta Theta Omnicron is home to our school’s honor society, helping them to excel at reaching their goals, and transfer to the schools of their choice. They also offer scholarships for those who meet the criteria.
Our campus’ chapter of PTK also involve themselves in community services to help the less fortunate, and preserve the environment.
The PTK also offers its members the Five Star Competitive Edge, allowing you to build your electronic portfolio, and is a tool designed to give students an edge when applying for scholarships, transferring to schools, and competing for careers.
“There is about $40 million in scholarships available to Phi Theta Kappa members”, said Christine Case, biology professor and advisor for the PTK. “If you’ve been invited, there is no reason not to accept it; you’ve already earned the grades, so why not join.”
Case has been an advisor since Apr. 1999 and serves as a liaison between headquarters and registrar offices and makes sure your membership is duly noted.
Community services do not only entail cleaning up trash alongside a highway or planting flowers, but also includes educational community service.
“Because I happen to be a science major, we did community service through science”, said Irene Yim, president of our campus’ chapter of the PTK. “We designed, developed, practiced, and bought supplies for middle-school labs, which we put together the labs ourselves, and we made a total of six labs.”
Members of the PTK are encouraged to participate in events that practice leadership skills to further prepare them for the work they may expect to see after leaving campus.
“Last semester, I did presentations for First Year Experience where I talked about perseverance”, said Sarah Kay, Skyline student and member of the PTK.
Joining our chapter of the PTK not only looks good on your resume or portfolio, but also prepares you for what lies ahead.
