Looking for a place where you can unwind and watch the game with a few buddies? Maybe you just want to get some food with the family? Well look no further because The American Bull Bar & Grill is the place to be on game night or just any casual night.
American Bull is nestled in the Burlingame Plaza Shopping Center, which is essentially a strip mall. The outside of the establishment definitely shows its age. It has a blue and white paint job that is a shared theme throughout the whole strip, with tinted windows and an American flag hanging outside. The place could easily be dismissed or just seen as a hole in the wall if one does not bother to give it a good look inside.
Do not let the less than spectacular exterior of this place fool you. Inside The American Bull offers a nice, open sports-themed atmosphere. There is a bar and a few restaurant tables for those not drinking alcohol. It has around 20 televisions with almost every sports channel available. You are bound to find something worth watching while there. In the back, there are a few game machines, and dart boards for those looking to do something besides watching television. Sports memorabilia that was collected by the late founder Bob Jones is placed all around which helps further authenticate the sporty feeling.
The service here is decent; every waiter and bartender is friendly. On a busy day it may take a while for the waiters to get to your table. But these things are to be expected when the place is packed. The food tastes great; they have soups, salads, fish and chips, burgers, and some choices for the kids. My personal favorite is the Chili Burger, which comes with a side. The sides you can choose range from chili to potato salad. While the food does taste great, at a price range of nine dollars for a chili burger and fries can feel steep. The portion of fries given to me seemed to be a tad small. Every time I go, the meal leaves me wishing I had just a little bit more. That could just be my gluttonous side showing..
The bar has two televisions under it with a computer that displays an in-house lotto game on it. The selection of alcohol at the restaurant is decent; nothing special here. They do offer specials like 50 cent wings Wednesday. There is also a happy hour special every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. where all appetizers are half-off, and any domestic beer is $3.
Overall, the American Bull Bar & Grill is a place where you can just have fun and enjoy the game. The exterior may turn you off at first, but if you give this place a chance you may be surprised.
