Price: $5-$10/person
Location: 1905 Palmetto Ave. Pacifica.
Everybody tends to have a little bit of a sweet tooth, so when I found out there was an old-fashioned candy store in Pacifica, I knew I had to check it out.
I first learned of the “Candy Oasis” because of the Fogfest; they had a stall set up with some scrumptious candy and they told me if I didn’t find what I liked, I could go to the main store which was on the street behind him. I had no idea there was even a store on that street; I thought there were only apartments!
A few weeks later when my supply of candy dwindled, I figured I would go check out the store. It took me a little while find it, but eventually I found a spot to park and head on in. When I walked in, the first thing I was struck by was how clean and well-maintained the store was. I’ve been watching a lot of Food Network and it has made me paranoid about what kind of conditions my food is stored in, but just setting foot in this place made me confident.
While the store itself isn’t very large, to your left as you walk in the door there is quite the assortment of delicious saltwater taffy. Every time I’ve been in, they’ve told me to feel free to sample any flavors I wanted and I made sure to try the flavors I was interested in buying. My favorite definitely has to be the “sassy taffy” which has a wide assortment of flavors itself and is more sour than a traditional saltwater taffy.
The store also has refreshments for sale, and a pretty good assortment of chocolates, including choco late bars that may be lost pieces of your childhood that are hard to find nowadays. I’ve seen gummy bears that are maybe 20 times the usual size of a gummy bear, definitely not the horrifying one pound gummy bears prone to appearing in Youtube videos, but a healthy medium.
I’ve also seen them carry things like the pink popcorn you may have gotten at the San Francisco Zoo and little Nintendo themed treats. I’ve met each of the owners on different days I’ve been in and
they’ve both been very nice people, which is another feature of this store that will definitely keep me coming back for a long time to come. The final thing that sealed the deal was the reasonable prices on everything.
For $20, I had enough candy to hold over my mother and I for two weeks! If I’ve inspired you to check out their store, then you should check out their page on Facebook, just search for The Candy Oasis. You could also just make your way over, it’s located at 1905 Palmetto Ave. Suite A, but the entrance to the store is on Salada Avenue and that’s probably your best bet for finding parking.
If you’re ready to go into a sugar induced coma, then make sure to give it a cursory visit!
