I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Without a doubt, dessert is the best part of the meal. Every person with a sweet tooth could agree on that.
Dessert in the city can be hard to find since most dessert is offered at the restaurants. As far as ice cream goes, Mitchell’s and Mel’s were about as close to an ice cream parlor you could get.
Walking in it feels like a blast from the past. The employees are dressed all in white with a black bow-tie and white hat. With the interior mixed to look like it is out of the 1920s/30s and the employee uniforms, you are sure to feel like you are in a saloon/speakeasy.
All of their ice cream and cookies are made daily there. Their flavors of ice cream may change seasonally, but they will continue to make them in their kitchen according to their website.
This Cole Valley establishment doesn’t just serve the typical ice cream sundae though. They offer sandwiches, hot dog and a veggie bratwurst for their lunch menu.
For those over the age of 21, they have a special menu called the “remedies” menu. These are different fountain sodas that contain alcohol. They also have beer and wine. You can add ice cream to any of these alcoholic beverages and make a float out of it. These you get from a separate bar near the back of the bar.
For those that are under 21, there is plenty to be able to try there. They offer regular soda to be mixed with any of the types of ice cream they are offering.
The hot fudge sundae is the typical sundae with hot fudge, whipped cream, toasted almonds and a cherry; but the flavors of ice cream are up to you. They have a few of the traditional flavors you would expect and some that are a little different; Irish coffee, Banana Puddin’, Basil and Fromage Blanc to name a few.
All of the food and the desserts are served are these silver plates that look like they are out of France. When ordering an ice cream sandwich they warm the cookies up and then place the ice cream in the middle before serving it. It tastes as if they had just taken it out of the oven and made it.
