Baseball may not be the most exciting sport to watch, particularly because it’s slow paced. But fans of the game find joy in watching baseball at any time and any place.
For years now, the Oakland A’s organization has been talking about either building a new stadium in downtown Oakland or relocating to Fremont, Sacramento or San Jose to address the poor attendance at A’s baseball games. But for some reason, many attempts have failed in relocating the Oakland A’s, despite it being clear that attendance has been down for many years.
The location, commute and lack of public transportation to the O.Co Coliseum may be one of the reasons that attendance at baseball games is down. Other reasons may be that many just don’t find the A’s to be a very exciting baseball team, or they would rather watch or be fans of the San Francisco Giants across the bay.
The Oakland A’s don’t have much public transportation to their home games other than BART, while the San Francisco Giants have BART, Caltrain, and MUNI stations all within walking distance. The Giants even offer bicycle parking services at their ballpark, and you can even take the ferry to AT&T Park.
With the A’s lack of public transportation to their games, it’s easy to see right away why people may not like attending baseball games in the East Bay. However I applaud the Oakland A’s organization for doing what they can in terms of promotions, discounted tickets and free parking on certain days when the A’s are playing at home.
For every home game that the Athletics play this season in 2012, there will be some sort of value or promotion, whether it’s the first 10,000 fans receiving a free item such as an A’s fleece blanket, free parking on Tuesdays ($17 all other days), $2-ticket Wednesdays, or even Friday night post-game fireworks from the field.
Additionally, at every Friday home game, the stadium offers family value packs, which includes four plaza-level tickets (middle-deck view), four hot dogs, four drinks, and four bags of peanuts all for just $50. This comes out to just $12.50 per person for a fun Friday night at the coliseum.
With all of these great promotions and values, it’s hard to go wrong in making the most out of attending a major league baseball game. Your total cost to attend an Oakland A’s game, including tickets and parking (parking is $30 at Giants games), will be at most, half as much as the cost of attending a Giants game.
It would be wise to look at the A’s promotional calendar online and see what promotion or value they have to offer when the San Francisco Giants come to town. You might enjoy watching baseball and attending A’s games after all, whether it’s for the discounted tickets, post-game fireworks from the field, or being one of the first few thousand fans to receive something free just by arriving to the game early.
