Tuesday night’s Victorian dance rehearsal was the first time mixed partners danced and performed together. Brad Bollinger observed the rehearsal with his dancing partner (who is also his real-life partner),Rita Wolper. Since Rita already knows the dances Brad feels he is adding a little rehearsal tension while learning the pieces. He stated that he feels, “he is stumbling some and wants to fully absorb the lessons and let the dance just flow.”
Steve Kennedy, Victorian dance choreographer, regarded his tutoring of the students saying, “Some of them have it, some need work.”
Dianne Cushway, Skyline dance instructor and Victorian dance production workshop director, shared her experience about Tuesday night’s rehearsal mentioning that she feels, “stressed about this production.” She was also quoted as saying, “I am so impressed by the dedication of the students–I’m just stunned. We are trying something so complex: students making their own costumes, silent-acting and traditional Victorian-inspired dance.” But, after tonight’s rehearsal, she is also encouraged, stating, “It is beginning to gel”.
When asks about her thoughts about the production, Laurie Ratliff , costume and stage director, stated, “I think of this as a theatrical Victorian pageant that is not historically accurate. We are taking theatrical license as this will make the production more interesting for today’s audience. We’ve got characters who engage with each other and who get into mischief, among other things!”
The Victorian-inspired dance production still needs male dancers, especially those who waltz or woman dancers who are willing to dress as a man.
