Saturday’s town hall meeting ended on a much lighter note as a local little league team presented the mayor with over $1300 to help the victims of the San Bruno Fire disaster.
The Coastside Crush is a little league team half made up of San Bruno kids, half Pacifica kids and consisting of one kid from Half Moon Bay. The children range from ages 10 or 11 and in the course of half a day they raised $1359 and filled the back of a car with clothing and other goods for the victims of the explosion and resulting fire.
The Mike Mack, the coach of the Coastside Crush, and his wife, have a philosophy about baseball. They felt that this good deed would help teach that philosophy. “Baseball is like life. You have accomplishments and failures and we need to teach the kids every aspect,” said Mack.
Late Friday night, Daniel Mack, a player on the team and son coach Mack, asked his mother Deanna Mack, if there was a way to help the people of San Bruno. Deanna then sent out an email to the parents of the team, saying that the boys should go to their friends, family and anyone they know asking for anything people could spare to help the victims of the disaster.
“All the kids were very excited to help,” said Deanna Mack over email correspondence. “They wanted to do more. They wanted to volunteer to help. They didn’t want to leave when we got there, they kept saying can’t we help. They are an amazing little group of boys that we are very proud of.”
