The 1990s can’t seem to have their generation evolve from the digital, creative, and ever-changing pocket monster.

Pokémon X & Y is the new Pokémon game that integrates both new and old Pokémon, along with a new twist to the original game that has made gameplay and battles seem limitless.

Over 60 new monsters make their way into the realm of Pokémon, including three new starters named Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Like all Pokémon games, each players is allow to choose one of them to embark on their journey in the Kalos region. Gym badges and the Pokémon League are still factors towards the main story of the game, in addition to solving the mystery behind Mega-Evolution.

This new evolutionary group calls gamers from the 1990s, in an attempt to make the old Pokémon into a more updated, crazier-looking version. Old favorites including Venasaur, Blastoise, Charizard, and the infamous Mewtwo all have an evolution that pushes their limits further beyond the expectations of the previous games. Along with their new looks include new types that can either benefit or hinder their gameplay, new hidden abilities, and stats upgrades.

In order to keep gameplay fair between players, the Pokémon Company decided that Mega-Evolution would be restricted to only one of each player’s Pokémon to Mega-Evolve per battle. In addition, that Pokémon will not be able to maintain that form after the battle, and will return to the normal state it once was.

Towards the actual gameplay itself, the Pokémon Company has definitely raised the bar in terms of graphic quality. Since the game is only able to play on either a Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, it now has qualities that make the game equivalent to a handheld Pokémon Stadium with better graphics. The towns, cities, and routes all have the general layout of standard Pokémon games, but the detail is displayed through the grass areas, buildings and environment. Gamers will be able to fully distinguish these characteristics that make up the game, making it seem as if the anime itself is in our hands.

The confusion towards this game is the plot. It is not direct in terms of what the game wants the players to do, aside from catching all the Pokémon. It’s not until about an hour of gameplay do the characters in the game say that the player must find the mystery behind Mega-Evolution, but even at that point there is no direct plot towards solving that mystery.

Aside from gameplay, the Pokémon Company also created a Pokémon Bank. This bank is a way for gamers to keep their Pokémon in one secure spot that will be accessible to only the gamer. The gamer is allowed to store up to 3000 Pokémon, and will be able to transport Pokémon from their previous Nintendo DS games with the usage of the Poké-Transporter. This service has an annual fee of $4.99. This affordable fee implies not only affordability and accessibility to all a gamers Pokémon, but also the idea that the Pokémon Company looks to create more games for its fans.
