As we get ready to set our DVR’s for the fall TV show line up, some viewers are turning their heads on reality TV competitions all together.
The ratings for the season 3 premiere of The X Factor USA, for example, were the lowest of its two previous seasons at 2.1 million viewers. In the season premiere last year they pulled in a respectable 8.4 million total viewers for their 2 hour premiere, which ratings wise was considered a 3.4.
This years total wasn’t what the executive producers expected. The X Factor hit a new low at only 6.2 million viewers for their one hour premiere. According to the Entertainment section of Huffpost the dip in the ratings and the total of viewers was caused by the shortage in the 18-49 demographic.
A show that had no problem generating good ratings was “Big Brother” on CBS that beat the season 3 premiere of X Factor on Wednesday with a total of 2.2 in ratings and a total of 6.7 million viewers.
Apart from the ratings hitting a new low The X factor has other issues that it needs to deal with. According to Yahoo music, one of the X Factor hopefuls Lillie Mcloud, also known as Nicole Mcloud back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, has had a really good past with the music industry. For example having ten hit songs on Billboards dance chart in the late years of the 1980’s.
Some people jumped to criticize the shows decision to keep her real identity classified. I personally don’t enjoy the shows format or the new judges. While all the judges have experience with being judges on singing competition shows it seems to me like their is now real chemistry between them.
On the other hand the X Factor could turn its ratings around if they introduce great talent to the audience. For example there were some real unique talents on its premiere.Rion Paige, a girl suffering from arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (forcing her hands to stay in a bent position), sang her heart out and left the judges and the audience in awe! The show picked up its ratings slightly on Thursdays show with a 2.2 rating and a total of 6.7 million viewers.
If it continue to introduces new and fresh talent this show might give other networks a run for its money.
Remember to tune in to FOX Weds & Thur @ 8 pm to watch the X Factor.
