Like 100 million other red blooded Americans on Sunday afternoon, I was planted on a couch watching Super Bowl 47. The game had everything a fan needs, including great quarterback play, a great halftime show, terrible officiating, and even a blackout. But I digress. One aspect of Super Sunday that did disappoint was the lack of quality commercials. For years, the Super Bowl has been known for its classic commercials, mainly the ones that feature large horses. But this year’s batch of commercials fell short of expectations. Luckily, a few were able to carry the load and make the time between actual football play pretty exciting. These were the movie trailers.
As a movie buff, I am always a fan of a good movie trailer. The few movie trailers shown during this year’s Super Bowl were especially entertaining and should make the summer film season a record for the box offices.
The most entertaining of all the trailers was “Fast and Furious 6”. Considering I was not previously warned that trailer was ready to be released, this one caught me off guard. I have been a fan of this franchise since the first film was released and the newest film seems to follow the same formula. The trailer packed some of the most ridiculous action sequences into a span of 60 seconds. “Fast and Furious 6” will be released May 24.
The only trailer that I was initially looking forward to was “Iron Man 3”. Marvel had a hold of me ever since the first “Iron Man” film was released back in 2008. After the release of the widely successful “The Avengers”, Marvel is heading into what they are calling “phase two” of their plans for future Marvel films releases. “Iron Man 3” picks up after “The Avengers” and takes Tony Stark to all time lows, literally. From what the trailer shows, Iron Man has hit rock bottom and will rise hopefully again.
But the best trailer of all the ones that were shown during the Super Bowl was “Star Trek Into Darkness”. The crew of the Enterprise faces a brand new villain, played by English actor Benedict Cumberbatch, whose role has yet to be revealed. With J.J. Abrams back as director, “Star Trek Into Darkness” could be the most successful of any film released this summer. “Star Trek Into Darkness” will be released May 17.
