Hip-hop’s rising star ASAP Rocky performed Wednesday night on October 24 at Oakland’s Fox Theater. The atmosphere was filled with groovy energy. People of all ages attended to support the LongLiveA$ap tour’s artistry.
As he performed, an upside down American flag hung behind him, and ASAP Rocky explained during his performance, “We came to turn things upside down. We do this for ya’ll, artists like us, and for people like us all around the world.”
Even though hip-hop has a tendency to be not respected as an art, ASAP Rocky has done an impeccable job building his credibility as an artist in hip-hop culture. Working very closely with the fashion industry and paying homage to the inspiration behind his music has already made him legendary.
Although he is from Harlem, ASAP Rocky surprised the Oakland crowd by bringing out legends E-40 and Too Short to perform at the concert, and this the crowd to go wild. Other guest artists that performed were School Boy Q, Kendrick Lamar and Danny Brown. The LongLiveA$ap tour was a fine combination of hip-hop’s new generation all under one roof, united, and performing.
Sean Germaine, aka DJ Sean G, who performs locally in San Francisco, said, “ASAP Rocky show at the Fox last night was classic. He brought out E-40, Too Short, Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q & Kendrick Lamar. Crazy.”
Skyline student, Shahra Sidiqi, said, “My favorite part was when they brought out Too Short and E-40 because just when the energy of the crowd was slowing down they brought it right back up.”
As ASAP Rocky continues to acknowledge his inspirations and influences through his career, he will fundamentally be very well-respected by hip-hop legends and continue to “Always Strive and Prosper.”
