Off to a Flier
As a new semester has arrived at Skyline College, with it has come the much anticipated, fresh, new soccer season for the Skyline men’s soccer team.
Full of energy and excitement, head coach Daniel Link has said, “It is the most I have been excited about a season in the last five or six years.”
Link has been coaching soccer at Skyline for the past fifteen years. Players have described him as “something special…really funny…strict and always keeps it real.”
With a full roster of eighteen new players and four returning, some of them including Caesar Zeordia and Michael Wheaton (who was named all state scholar athlete last year and is looking to continue his soccer career in Calpoly) this years team is looking forward to being a part of one of the toughest conferences in the nation. Facing teams such as Canada, City College of San Francisco, Cabrillo and DeAnza (which has placed as the top second team in regionals and state this past year) the coaches and players are convinced it is going to be a great season!
“This season is looking positive, the team is really working well together and we have a lot of high expectations” say players Michael Wheaton and Caesar Zeordia. “The season is looking good, this years team has the leadership and discipline which was lacking in previous years but we will definitely be taking it one game at a time” states a confident coach Link.
Having great leadership and discipline are necessary but aren’t the only qualities that are making for a good season: in this years team, having great chemistry between the players on and off the field has been a crucial aspect. This year, their chemistry has created a great atmosphere for this seasons players to be a part of. On coming first year player Renee Megata describes his experience so far as being “ great, everyone on the team is really nice and we all love to put in work, the coaches push us to do our best on the field and in our academics and playing has made me a more positive person.”
Megata, along with coach Danny and other players, also encourage anyone looking to join the team to start in the spring semester, show up on time, be mentally prepared for a lot of conditioning and get involved in the soccer summer classes offered here at skyline college. You can also directly email coach link with any questions at [email protected] or come talk to athletics dean Jo Morello. Lastly and most importantly, come support this years men’s soccer team and cheer them on skyline! Good luck this season and lets go Trojans!
